Steps To Take To Make Sure Your Bottle Cooler Is Running Properly

Your bottle cooler is the main focus for your pub, bar or restaurant, but they can often be over looked when it comes to day to day maintenance. Here are some simple, effective tips on how to make sure your bottle cooler has a long and happy life!
Doors
When busy it's easy to slam the doors of your bottle cooler, slamming doors, whether hinged or sliding, can cause unnecessary damage. Doors should be kept shut whenever possible. The door seals on bottle coolers should also be checked regularly for any tears or damage as broken door seals make the bottle cooler work much harder. Door seals can often be bought and relatively easily replaced if needed.
Regular Dust Checks
A common problem with the breakdown of bottle coolers is due to a build up of dust in the condenser, which causes a blockage in the air flow. Keeping your bottle cooler dust free will mean your bottle cooler will last longer and chill faster. This can be simply done with a duster or hoover, just be sure this is done carefully so no parts are bent or damaged.
Lighting
Without lighting it's likely that your products won't be displayed as well as they could be. Your user manual should tell you how and where to replace any lighting. But make sure your bottle cooler has lighting to begin with, many don't.

Salad Bars and Buffet Bars - A Buying Guide

Commercial salad bars and buffet bars are perfect for hotels, restaurants and cafes looking to allow their customers to serve themselves effectively and save a bit of money on staff costs too!

FOOD DISPLAY BARS

Used on top of an existing counter these units accept standard sized gastronorm pans which can be filled and replaced with stock. Both sides of the display are open to allow customers and staff to gain access. The Lincat FDB5-SSG5 is a popular choice.

SALADETTE COUNTERS

Available to buy in a range of sizes these counters are similar to the standard kitchen counter but with the additional gastronorm pans on top of the unit, which allows the staff to serve from the unit or use it to easily prep food with pre-prepared products. These units have refrigerated storage and prep top space which makes them ideal for kitchen use. The Inomak ZN99 two door saladette counter is an example of all these features.

BUFFET DISPLAY

Buffet displays are front of house units usually available in self-service or assisted service which can include island displays such as the Blizzard GB4 cold buffet display. Often available in matching heated and chilled versions these displays have a gastronorm pan area on top and under storage such as the Igloo gastroline GLC-1000.

COUNTERLINE PRODUCTS

If you are looking to customise your food service display then a Counterline counter has a range of solutions. These units are made to order but are on a short lead time with a huge choice of drop-in wells, and canopy styles. The wells can be chilled, heated or ambient, open or closed fronted or even tiered display. The well can be dropped into a counter design or fitted into a rolling base unit for mobile use.

How To Choose The Right Patisserie Display Cabinet For Your Business

The patisserie display cabinet is the best unit to display your cakes, bakery, deli & confectionery. Here’s a few hints and tips to help you make the right choice when buying a patisserie display cabinet.

STYLES OF PATISSERIE DISPLAY

There are two main types of unit on offer both with useful features to help you and your staff operate more effectively.

SERVE OVER

These unit are similar to the standard serve over counters in many delis, sandwich shops or butchers with a glass front and service shelf but with a few features that make selling cakes and patisserie viable. To make the most out of the display area in the counter extra shelving is added. This can be up to 3 additional shelves, for example the Igloo Beta and Frilixa Tejo feature 1 refrigerated shelf above the deck and 2 ambient shelves above this shelf. One of the best features on these units is the pull out deck. A feature on the Beta, Tejo and Blizzard Omega, the main display deck is a pull out drawer, allowing the staff to serve from the bottom deck without having to reach into the cabinet.

CABINET

The cabinet style of display is taller than the serve over style with a low front and 4 levels of display. Units can have a fixed back for self-service, or a glass fronted display with doors to the rear for staff access. Because these units have more levels of display they tend not to be available in widths bigger than 1.5m. Due to the increased height of around 1.4m this may mean that service over the unit may not be practical, so additional service counters need to be factored into your design.

TEMPERATURES

Although many of the patisserie displays are for chilled use, in many cases these units have matching heated, ambient and humidity controlled units such as the Norpe Aida range. These allow you to extend your offer to customers while keeping the same look and performance of your equipment.

TRADITIONAL

If you are looking to create a more traditional feel to your display then a wood finished cabinet is what you want. Popular choices are the Igloo Jamaica pastry case and Trimco Zurich range. For a traditional serve-over style the Mafirol Safira confectionery display comes in a wood veneer finish.

CONTEMPORARY

Straight glass and coloured finishes have been a recent trend and if you are looking to create a more stylish and contemporary design the straight glass Igloo Gastroline and Interlevin EVOK match this look. Clean lines and crisp finishes can also be found on the ISA millennium range, another straight glass design.

Need to Know Info About Multideck Chillers

multideck display fridge is the best way to boost your sales. Essentially a commercial chiller without a door these units are invaluable in busy retail areas allowing your customers to reach in and serve themselves.
MULTIDECK TYPES
Multidecks are broken down into 7 categories based on cabinet size, function and application. These are General Purpose and Dairy, Low Height, Fresh Meat, Slimline, Shutter, Fruit and Vegetable and Remote Refrigeration. Here is each type in more detail.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Ideal for salads, sandwiches, deli, beverages, alcohol and dairy. A wide choice of options and sizes are available such as the Framec Sunny and Mondial Elite Jolly the most popular sellers.

FRUIT AND VEGETABLE

Similar to the fresh meat multideck these are designed specifically to retail fruit and vegetables. These cabinets have baskets in place of shelves and the traditional angled mirror at the top of the cabinet to improve product visibility. The temperature range of these multidecks keeps fresh produce at +2°C/+7°C. The Frilixa Marao is a best seller in this category.

FRESH MEAT

These multidecks are designed for the retail of packaged fresh meat making them perfect for butchers shops, supermarkets and farm shops. In terms of design they have the same features as the general purpose multidecks but have a temperature range of between -2°C/+4°C making them able to store and display fresh meat safely.

SLIMLINE

Available with many of the features in the other ranges but with a shallow footprint, around a depth of 600mm. The Mondial Elite Slim range is only 580mm deep. This makes these cabinets great for coffee shops, cafes and delis where large cabinet volume is not essential.

SHUTTER

Fitted with a lockable roller shutter, these cabinets are the perfect solution for petrol forecourts, school canteens and motorway service stations where extra security is needed outside of service hours.

LOW HEIGHT

These smaller open deck chillers are ideal for cafes, coffee shops or small shops or for end-of-aisle use in supermarkets. Typically standing to around 1.4m in height the units are ideal for dedicated products sales.

REMOTE

This refers to the multideck motor being placed on the outside of the building. Ideal for larger scale operations, these units can be multiplexed. Ideal for off licences, convenience stores and supermarkets.

THINGS TO CHECK PRE-DELIVERY

Once you’ve chosen your multideck, the next thing to think about is where the unit will go. It sounds simple but there are a few things to bear in mind to ensure the unit runs well.

YOUR PREMISES

These units are often large and heavy but also very fragile with breakable glass panels. Delivery teams cannot tilt or lie the cabinet down to go through doorways. Check both the height and width of your doorway with the dimensions of your intended cabinet.

FLOORING

Make sure the unit is placed on a level floor. Uneven flooring by a few millimeters can mean the condensate water cannot drain and can lead to water appearing at the bottom of the unit.

ROOM TEMPERATURES

Unless the unit has remote refrigeration all multideck chillers have a maximum ambient working temperature of 25°C. If room temperature is hotter than this, the cabinet has to work harder and the cabinet temperature will rise. Ensure that any cabinet exposed to these higher temperatures has excellent ventilation. This is really important at night where doors and windows are closed allowing temperatures to rise. Allowing airflow around the cabinet at the back and sides is also important so have a gap of at least 50-60mm at the back and sides to allow proper air flow.

OTHER AIRFLOWS

Other sources of air can have a negative effect on the fridge’s performance. The cabinet has an air curtain running across the front of the display to keep the internal space chilled. Placing the unit near windy places such as an open shop door or directly under an air conditioning unit may remove this air curtain causing temperatures inside to soar.

ELECTRICAL SUPPLIES

If you want a larger sized cabinet (two metres and above) check the electrical supply as some may need a hardwired electrical connection. Check you have space on your mains board and ensure a qualified electrician installs the unit.

OTHER FEATURES

Here are some other features to look out for, which can improve your product display & help you get more out of your multideck chiller. Ticket strips are not a standard on every model but are essential for displaying product pricing. Shelf risers keep products on the shelves. Although the shelves may tilt, risers do not come as standard with every model. If moving your cabinet is a requirement then castors are a necessity. Check the specification as they are not typically offered as standard. The Mondial Elite Jolly SL10 however is supplied with castors. Glass end panels are used for improving the product display.

Everything You Need To Know About Chest Freezers

We've got a couple of orders for Chest Freezers recently therefore we made the decision to build an easy guide on selecting the best chest freezers to suit your needs. A chest freezer is usually a significant component of a small business.

Chest Freezers usually take up a lot of space inside your premises therefore finding out the actual amount of space is a good place to start! Just knowing the dimensions, you're half way there! On our web page, the sizes are from 110 to about 370 ltrs. Consider what exactly it really is you might be storing, and how much space you will have to make this happen, for example, a smaller nearby coffee shop won't need exactly the same amount as a large restaurant would.

The standard temperature range on a Chest Freezer is actually -18°C/-24°C, if you require lower temperatures, some chest freezers go down to -25°C/-45°C. Make a decision what exactly the freezer will be used for and check what temperatures you may need prior to purchasing!

A lot of freezers include special features like interior lighting, lockable tops and hanging baskets. For more information give the sales team a call or check out our chest freezers here.

Guide To Serve Over Counters

Going ahead and purchasing a serve over counter is a big deal as usually these units can cost in the thousands. This guide will help you think of everything before buying to make sure you’re getting the perfect serve over counter for you.
The first thing to think about is the type of produce that is to be displayed in the counter. This is an important consideration as your produce may require a cabinet with a certain temperature range. For example, fresh meat will require a lower range than dairy and deli produce.
Many models come with refrigerated under storage which is useful for replenishing stock on the deck during opening hours. It is not recommended that stock be stored in the under storage area overnight, it should be moved to a storage fridge or cold room.
When considering the purchase of any display unit, it worth making a few checks before ordering. The size of many displays exceeds that of a normal size doorway so always measure your access points to ensure that any prospective purchase will fit. If you find that the doorway is too narrow there are models available designed to fit through a standard size door space.
To aid in the continued good running of any unit it is recommended that drainage points are kept free of debris and the compressor is cleaned regularly. This involves removing dust that has accumulated with a soft brush or preferably a vacuum nozzle at least once a month. Doing this will ensure a more efficient operation and increased cabinet life.
Most models are supplied with a warranty but it is recommended that a preventative maintenance plan is taken out. This can be as simple as an annual or bi-annual service carried out by a qualified engineer. This will allow any potential problems to be flagged up early which can avoid cabinet failure and potential lost of stock and business.
The units in this range are all less than 900mm in depth to allow them to fit through a standard sized doorway. This is a popular choice for customers with old properties or for those where access is restricted and space is at a premium. The same cabinet widths are available as in the standard depths but with the reduced depth dimension meaning even the tightest of shop can benefit from these units. Along with the great bonus of being able to fit through the door these counters boast a beautiful design and good build quality throughout the range.
An attractive curved glass display is a feature often specified by those looking to really enhance their product display. The curved glass frontage enables your customer to view your produce better and can add an element of good looking design to your product display. Any display can benefit from this type of design. The curved glass design is also available in counter top options for businesses without the luxury space.
These units are ideal for markets, outside catering events or simply to give you more display options in store. Mounted on castors they can be transported easily making them great for farmers markets or anywhere where outside catering maybe be needed.
As the name suggests these units are specifically for the display of fresh meat. Perfect for butchers and delicatessens, these units run between the safe temperatures needed to hold meat. With all the great features such as a rear service shelf and under storage the fresh meat model can solve your storage and display problems.

How To Choose The Best Microwave For You

Here at Corr Chilled we offer a huge range of different wattage microwaves from 1000w to 1900w, but which is best? There’s many different advantages and disadvantages to each wattage, here we will explain what they are and which wattage you need for your kitchen.
Most people think that the higher the wattage the higher the energy consumption and therefore higher running costs. This isn’t necessarily true, in theory it is but, the higher wattage microwaves won’t be cooking as long, so it will all balance out in the end with Kilowatts per hour being roughly the same.
The higher wattage microwaves, the 1800w to 1900w machines will be heating up food almost twice as fast as the 1000w microwaves. This can be an issue for defrosting food, but mostcommercial microwaves that are over 1800w will be able to change the power level to accommodate for this.
A concerning disadvantage for most people when it comes to high wattage commercial microwaves is powering the unit. The common thought when you think of this is hardwiring a 20 watt connection directly from the microwave. Our range, however, includes 13 amp plug high wattage commercial microwaves for your convenience.
Domestic microwaves are usually low wattage between 1000w and 1200w. If you need something like this for your commercial kitchen we also supply these. Below is a table comparing cooking times of the above mentioned microwave powers.

Low Height Multidecks - What You Need To Know

Full height open deck display, although desirable is not always possible in many retail outlets. The low height multi deck can solve this problem by still allowing a chilled tiered product display just like a full height display. Low height open chillers are ideal for smaller shops/premises and due to their lower height can be incorporated into a counter or bar making them ideal for coffee shops delicatessens and newsagents.
A low height retail fridge Corr Chilled can recommend is the Norpe Norcon stainless steel display. With attractive curved glass side panels and brushed stainless steel finish this unit makes a great impression as a font of house unit for coffee shops and cafe bars.
For large volume chilled convenience retail the remote fridge allows any length of chilled space to be achieved making them the perfect cabinet for convenience stores and supermarkets. Due to the scale of the display space the refrigeration is housed on the outside of the premises ensuring the heat and noise of large amounts of refrigeration is kept away from your shopping area and your customers.
Where additional security is needed the shutter multi deck is an ideal unit. Fitted with a lockable roller shutter these cabinets allow the chilled produce to be locked in safely overnight making the unit ideal for school canteens and garage forecourts.
When considering the purchase of any display unit, it's worth making a few checks before ordering. The size of many displays exceeds that of a normal size doorway so it’s always worth measuring your access points to ensure that any prospective purchase will fit through the door. If you find that the doorway is too narrow there are models available designed to fit through a standard size door space too.
